La Jolla Rec Center Celebrates 100 Years
Linda Daniels and The Daniels Group fully embrace the La Jolla Community and as such, strive to maintain the status of being true “experts” within the area. Our office is a part of this beautiful coastal community, and we immerse ourselves in all it has to offer. In addition to real estate news, our blog aims to highlight the best of the best in La Jolla, whether it be an event, a special place, or simply something to celebrate the local community. This past week, the La Jolla Recreation Center celebrated it’s 100 year anniversary, where San Diego officials, including City Councilwoman Sherri Lightner, attended the celebration.
About the Recreation Center Rededication Ceremony
The centennial event commemorated the opening of the center in 1915, after it was donated by Ellen Browning Scripps. As a local resident who lived next door to where the recreation center stands now, she wanted to help create an environment in La Jolla where everyone could come together and enjoy community activities. The rededication ceremony brought out La Jolla residents of all ages, who gathered to celebrate with live music, a petting zoo, and even some really fun entertainment provided by local magicians. The ceremony truly captured the spirit of the event in true La Jolla fashion.
Offerings at the La Jolla Recreation Center
The Recreation Center offers an assortment of classes for La Jolla community members, including gymnastics, yoga, fitness classes, and tai chi. The center also boasts many facility amenities, including tennis and basketball courts, a weight room, and three playground areas on site. If you’re an avid book reader, there is a Book Nook at the center, which abides by the “take a book, leave a book” policy. With so many wonderful books in rotation, there’s always something interesting to sink your mind into. The La Jolla Rec Center also offers summer camps for kids, where they can participate in sports or attend the “Mad Science” camps and learn more about plant life and the NASA Space Program. You can visit their website to view their full program guide for summer activities.
Centrally Located in Beautiful La Jolla
The location of the recreation center makes it accessible, as well as being in proximity to many local businesses. If you’re looking for some amazing food after an active afternoon at the Rec Center, try the Museum Cafe, a european-inspired bistro where you can dine on the ocean view patio. Roppongi Restaurant and Sushi Bar is also a popular choice for those looking to experience the taste of Southern California seafood. The La Jolla Recreation Center is also walking distance from the La Jolla Historical Society, where you can learn about the heritage and history of the La Jolla community.
The La Jolla Recreation Center is located at 615 Prospect Street San Diego, CA 92037. The center is open to the public from 10:00am to 7:00pm on Mondays, 10:00am- 8:00pm Tuesday through Thursday, 10:00am – 6:00pm on Fridays, 9:00am- 1:00pm on Saturdays, and is closed on Sundays. Please visit their website for more details.
All of us here at The Daniels Group would like to congratulate and applaud the La Jolla Rec Center for celebrating a century of providing local residents with a place that offers a true sense of community!
