La Jolla, San Diego and Area Views
These sites have no admission charge, although parking a vehicle may have a cost. There are so many spots with ocean views, but we had to pick these three.
1. Bird Rock Lookout at La Jolla Hermosa Park
We love the bike path. Bring a picnic basket at sunset to this quiet area. There are benches and grills for the more ambitious, but really all you need is a few moments to enjoy the view.
2. Sunset Cliffs Lookout Point
The beaches in La Jolla, San Diego, and surrounding areas are all stunners, but this lookout point mid-trail gives you a reason to love San Diego.
Head up the last park entrance on the right and get a spectacular sunset view. If you are brave enough, use the ropes to get yourself down to the beach below.
Beware of the twisting contours of the roads leading to the trail. A lucky few have homes here, as the area is almost completely residential.
3. Soledad Veterans Memorial
The Soledad Veterans Memorial honors those who have served, living or dead. Located at the highest point of La Jolla, it features 360-degree panoramic views of the mountains to the east, Pacific Ocean swells to the west, the coastal neighborhoods to the north, and La Jolla, San Diego and beyond to the south.
Top of a Tall Building
There are plenty of buildings dotting the San Diego skyline now. If you know someone who can invite you over, fabulous! If you need to find a place, the best spot for a breathtaking view is the Manchester Hyatt.
4. Top of the Hyatt
This classic spot on the 40th floor opens daily at 3:00 p.m.
It’s the perfect spot to have an adult beverage and enjoy the city below. If you aren’t lucky enough to have a penthouse view, a sunset sip and a light bite here will let you experience the life for a few hours.
The top of Torrey Pines cliffs is already a prime spot for scenic views, but how about adding some adventure?
5. Torrey Pines Gliderport
The “Kitty Hawk of the West” is the home to home to hang gliding, sailplanes (the radio controlled models and the full-size ones that carry a person) and paragliding. Whether you venture into the air yourself, or simply bring a sandwich and take in the scene, the Gliderport never fails to impress.
La Jolla, San Diego, and the surrounding area share gorgeous mountain views and stunning sunsets over the Pacific Ocean.
We hope you take the time to visit them all!
