2015 Holiday Events in La Jolla
The La Jolla community is gearing up for the holidays! If you’re looking to fill your calendar with some fun events in and around town, there’s plenty of exciting events to add to the list. Here’s are some of the fun holiday happenings in our hometown:
Kicking off the holiday fun is the annual holiday parade happening this Sunday, December 6th at 1:30pm on Girard Avenue. After the parade, stick around for some more cheer with the Holiday Festival which will take place at the La Jolla Recreation Center on Prospect Street from 2:30pm to 5pm — enjoy some live entertainment, arts and crafts, educational exhibits, and photos with Santa.
Date: Sunday, December 6th at 1:30pm
Time and Place: 1:30pm on Girard Avenue
Award-winning performer and San Diego favorite Hershey Felder (George Gershwin Alone, Maestro Bernstein), brings to life the compelling story of Irving Berlin –a noteworthy historical celebrity who is often deemed ‘America’s Composer.’ Irving Berlin’s story showcases the historical vision of capturing the true American Dream. Some of the composer’s most remembered songs will be featured in this incredible performance including, “Always,” “Blue Skies,” “God Bless America,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” to “White Christmas,” and more. This one is a must for musical theatre enthusiasts!

Bring your children down to La Jolla’s favorite bookstore for a special Grandmother’s Tea storytime! Children’s author, Helen Foster James, will be reading and signing her new book, “Grandma’s Christmas Wish.”
Date and Time: Wednesday, December 9th at 3pm
Place: Warwick’s Bookstore, 7812 Girard Ave. La Jolla
If you’re in the mood for an elegant evening of dining, drinks and a little holiday jazz music in a friendly atmosphere, cruise on down to La Jolla Shores where the Amelia Browning Quartet will be putting on a ‘Very Merry Jazz’ show at Cusp.
Date and Time: Thursday, December 17, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Place: Cusp, 7955 La Jolla Shores Drive, 11th Floor, San Diego, CA 92037
Music lovers will appreciate this special event held at UCSD’s Mandeville auditorium. “The La Jolla Symphony and Chorus Chamber Choir is a 110-person orchestra and 130-voice chorus which includes members of the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus, the city’s oldest and largest community orchestra and chorus.” Conductor, Steven Schick, will conduct a program that features John Luther Adams, “The Light That Fills the World”; Ori Talmon, new work TBA; Barber, “Prayers of Kierkegaard”; and Copland, Symphony No. 3. A free pre-concert lecture will also be offered one hour prior to concert time.

This is an ongoing event, but we thought we’d add it in for anyone who might not be familiar with it. ‘Tis the season for some yummy food, right?! Bite is a walking tour that begins in the center of downtown La Jolla where participants enjoy delicious samplings from Richard Walker’s Pancake House, Ohana Cafe, The Public House, We Olive, and Farm to Fork Juice.
